Most Christmas tree ornaments in the Victorian period were homemade, and often out of miscellaneous things that could be found around the house. Most ornaments were made of paper or dried fruit. A popular way to make ornaments was with advertisement and magazine pictures, decorated with tinsel, glitter, fancy papers, and ribbons. I'm using printouts of Victorian illustrations to make mine, and have made a printable sheet for you to use below!
Materials:
Victorian picture cutouts, or other illustrations/pictures
Glue/hot glue
Ribbon
Optional:
Glitter
Foil cupcake liners
Metallic pipe cleaners
Doilies
Lace
Step 1:
Cut out the pictures you'd like to use, and any special papers you want. You can cut circles to back your pictures, use squares or rectangles to accordion fold into fans, whatever your heart desires! You can also use doilies or flattened cupcake liners to make fun backings for your ornaments.
Step 2:
Arrange your pictures and shapes into a pleasing combination, and glue together.
Step 3:
Cut a piece of ribbon 8"-10" long and glue to the back as the hanging loop.
Step 4:
Further decorate your creation with glitter, lace scraps, more ribbons, anything you have on hand! Try out as many different combinations of materials as you like. This is a great freeform creative project where you can do whatever you want!
